Located in the north of Colombia and with a population of approximately 1,200 inhabitants, mostly from the Wayúu indigenous community, lies the Mayapo district. Specifically located in Manaure, La Guajira, this territory has been experiencing excessive growth in the tourism sector for the last 10 years. In this context, the purpose of this work was to understand if the growth of tourism in Mayapo can be compatible with the Wayúu culture, from the vision that the community of the district has about its future. The work approaches this reality from three basic concepts: Tourism, Culture and Development with some alternative visions of the same, from the perception of the Wayúu population, tour operators and Public officials, through the qualitative approach of a Guajiro Alijuna, resulting in the fact that although each actor has different perceptions of the tourist phenomenon that takes place in Mayapo, there are common points (the Wayúu demands more participation and the State has to play leading role in Mayapo) to build bridges that allow everyone to move in the same direction.
