In the western part of the central cordillera outcrops the Buga Batholith, an igneous intrusive body with a calco-alkaline composition, composed of granite and granodiorite rocks from the Cretaceous (ca 100 Ma). This body of 200 km2 is exposed in several towns of the Valle del Cauca department and intrude oceanic units that belong to the Caribbean Colombian Oceanic Plateau (CCOP). These units are represented by the Amaime Formation and Ginebra-s Ophiolitic Massif. This project aimed to determine the petrological and mineralogical aspects of the Buga Batholith, and from this give an approximation of the geological environment in which it was formed. To accomplish these objectives, a petrological study was made by analyzing thin sections and the scanning electron microscope from the rocks of the Buga Batholith and from other rocks that interact with it, like de Ginebra-s Ophiolitic Massif and the dykes that cut it. After having done these studies, it was found that the textures like zoning, sericite and myrmekite in the rocks of the batholith, these are textures that needed water for their formation or that were altered by the water from the main magma or from the zone. These results suggest that the batholith was formed in a subduction environment with a high angle which allowed the water to reach the rising magma
