This study is the first report of the appearance of a symbiosis between the Ostreobium endolytic algae and the deep coral Thalamophyllia riisei in the Colombian Caribbean, which was believed to be absent from any mutualistic association with photosynthetic algae. From individuals of the species Thalamophyllia riisei, Caryophyllia berteriana and Desmophyllum riisei that recorded green bands in their skeletons, similar to those generated by Ostreobium in corals of the shallow areas of the island of San Andres, the possibility of a new symbiotic relationship. By means of an extraction, amplification and sequencing of the rbcL gene, the samples are analyzed, where is found a positive sample in the coral of the species T. riisei. Although the phylogenetic relationships are not clear, the new symbiosis, not recorded in other studies, between the endolytic algae and the deep coral is verified.
