Los alabaos son cantos fúnebres que se emplean desde hace cientos de años en los ritos mortuorios de las comunidades afro del Chocó. En ellos la herencia del romancero hispánico ha sido moldeada y readaptada para funcionar en un nuevo contexto. Las rupturas con la tradición hispánica, aunque sutiles, revelan todo un mundo social y espiritual que trasciende la vida misma y cuenta la historia de un pueblo que no se ha dejado callar.
Resumen
Alabaos are a type of funerary chant that have been used in the death rites of the comunities of african descent of Chocó for hundreds of years. In them, the heritage of the hispanic ballad has been reforged and reporpoused to work in a new context. It's ruptures with the hispanic tradition that precedes them, though subtle, reveal a social and spiritual world that trascends life itself and tells the history of a people that refuses to be silenced.
