This written work wants to clarify Plotinus thinking regarding his model on sense perception in order to analyze two modern interpretations of this subject and find one that works best in explaining and understanding the structure of human psychology according to Plotinus. First it will be explained who the subject of perception is according to Plotinus and it will be also examined what does perceiving really is in the Plotinian thinking. Likewise, another notions that are important in Plotinus' philosophy will also be studied such as the notion of "sympathy" or the impassibility of the soul. Then the two modern interpretations of Plotinus work regarding sense perception will be presented. Through the written works of Eyjólfur K. Emilsson the interpretation that consists on direct realism will be studied. And through the works of Sara Magrin an interpretation of a representational theory of the mind will be examined. The study of this interpretations has as main goal which is to achieve a better understanding of Plotinus thinking on sense perception. Finally I hold that the perspective on Plotinus work from a direct realism point of view suits better the understanding of Plotinus human psychology than a representation theory of the mind interpretation
