Líderes ambientales colombianos bajo amenaza: entre la muerte y el rechazo del acuerdo de Escazú

En este artículo se arguye que el Acuerdo del Escazú es un tratado regional que complementa y fortalece las leyes nacionales ambientales, en aras de defender la vida y los derechos humanos de las/los defensores ambientales, los cuales están siendo violados sistemáticamente en Colombia. Para desarrollar la anterior afirmación se presentarán los antecedentes del Acuerdo de Escazú, sus principios y mecanismos. Más adelante, se analizará la importancia de este acuerdo para la región. Posteriormente, se estudiará la realidad de los líderes ambientales y sociales en Colombia y las limitaciones nacionales para defenderlos. Finalmente, se expondrá cómo los mecanismos que ofrece el acuerdo complementan los esfuerzos normativos para defender a las/los líderes que defienden sus territorios.
Resumen
In this article we argue that the Escazú Agreement is a regional treaty that complements and strengthens national environmental laws, in order to defend the life and human rights of environmental defenders, which are being systematically violated in Colombia. To develop the above statement, we will present the background of the Escazú Agreement, its principles and mechanisms. Later, we will study the importance of this agreement for the Latin America. Subsequently, we will analyze the reality of environmental and social leaders in Colombia and the national limitations to defend them. Finally, we will explain how the mechanisms offered by the agreement complement and strengthens the national normatives efforts to defend the leaders who defend their territories.
