The objective of this study was to carry out a review of scientific articles (of both Colombian and international origin) in which genes associated with obsessive compulsive disorder were studied, in order to determine if there are genetic variants that are related to the appearance of the obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) in humans and if these vary between sex. To carry out this study, a total of 70 articles from 3 different databases were reviewed and included. The total number of genes found and described that could be related to OCD in a given sex( based on the articles reviewed) were 17 (5HT1Beta, HTR2A, HTR3, SL6CA4 ,BDNF ,COMT, DRD2 ,GAD1 , GAD2, DAT1, GRID2 , GPR135 ,HTR1A,MAOA, SLC1A1 , PDE4D y NTRK2) It was found in this review that there are indeed some genes that are associated with the susceptibility and development of OCD in a specific sex and additionally it was found that this depended according to the type of variant or allele of the gene and also the ethnic origin of the person. It was also not possible to determine whether these genes were expressed by being directly inherited from ancestors or by interactions with the environment. And finally, it was also possible to show that in Colombia this issue has not been very well studied and therefore the potential that these studies have within Colombian populations was discussed.
