El círculo anímico : las emociones como comprensiones previas

Abstract

Esta tesis propone que las emociones constituyen comprensiones previas. Esto significa que las emociones comparten los rasgos que tienen los juicios según la hermenéutica. Es decir, establecen un proyecto de sentido - un horizonte interpretativo - y al mismo tiempo provienen de un proyecto de sentido dado por comprensiones previas; configuran así círculos de interpretación. El camino argumentativo para sostener esta tesis aborda la noción de emociones reactivas, noción que vendría a ser la opuesta a la de emociones como comprensiones previas y que presenta tres presupuestos: que las emociones son respuestas a estímulos, que las emociones son estados de descontrol - afecciones - y que las emociones son expresiones irracionales. Posteriormente se muestran los aspectos débiles de esos presupuestos que hacen necesaria una noción de emoción como la que propone esta tesis. Finalmente, se construye la propuesta de las emociones como comprensiones previas a partir de las nociones de emociones como juicios valorativos (Nussbaum), los juicios dentro del círculo hermenéutico (Gadamer) y la dirección propia del comprender (Heidegger).

This thesis proposes that emotions constitute prior understandings. This means that emotions share the traits that judgments have according to hermeneutics. That is to say, they establish a project of meaning - an interpretative horizon - and at the same time they come from a project of meaning given by previous understandings; thus they set up circles of interpretation. The argumentative path to support this thesis addresses the notion of reactive emotions, a notion that would be the opposite of emotions as prior understandings and that presents three assumptions: that emotions are responses to stimuli, that emotions are states of lack of control - affections - and that emotions are irrational expressions. Subsequently, the weak aspects of these assumptions are shown that make a notion of emotion such as the one proposed in this thesis necessary. Finally, the proposal of emotions as prior understandings is built from the notions of emotions as evaluative judgments (Nussbaum), the judgments within the hermeneutical circle (Gadamer) and the proper direction of understanding (Heidegger).
