La estructura social de Madame Bovary

Abstract

Esta investigación indaga si realmente es realista el realismo social. Para esto, hace un estudio de caso de la novela Madame Bovary y busca establecer si el universo social construido en esta es un modelo simplificado de la realidad o una construcción arbitraria. A partir de la metodología de redes sociales recrea la estructura social de la novela y la compara con modelos nulos con el fin de encontrar algún patrón estructural. A partir de esta estructura y de la narrativa de la novela se hace un análisis a la luz de la teoría de Bourdieu que muestra en la estructura una tensión entre dos "campos sociales" que no pueden darse en el mismo espacio social. Se concluye que la novela es superficialmente realista y profundamente romántica y es esta tensión la que permite mantener la tensión realista de la novela.

This research investigates whether social realism is realistic. For this, it makes a case study of Madame Bovary and seeks to establish whether the social universe constructed in it is a simplified model of reality or an arbitrary construction. Using the social network methodology, it recreates the social structure of the novel and compares it with null models in order to find a structural pattern. Based on this structure and the novel's narrative, an analysis is made with Bourdieu's theory, which shows in the structure a tension between two "social fields" that cannot occur in the same social space. It is concluded that the novel is superficially realistic and deeply romantic and it is this tension that allows the realistic tension of the novel to be maintained.
