Burbujas estéticas y el sistema de recomendación de Spotify como curador, portero e infomediario

Abstract

El filtro burbuja, las burbujas epistémicas y las cámaras de resonancia se han vuelto populares debido a los cuestionamientos sobre el papel de las redes sociales en la actualidad. Sin embargo, poco se ha hablado sobre cuál ha sido el papel de estos en la distribución y consumo de arte en la web, especialmente en plataformas de streaming como Spotify. Por esta razón, este texto trata sobre el papel de los sistemas de recomendación como portero, infomediario y curador. Así mismo, se propone el término burbujas estéticas, un fenómeno donde se reduce la diversidad de contenido estético que consumen los usuarios a causa de que estos no son expuestos a objetos estéticos distintos a los que ya conocen. Por otro lado, a este texto lo acompaña una aplicación web donde los usuarios podrán recibir contra-recomendaciones en su cuenta de Spotify. Estas contra-recomendaciones tienen como objetivo que los usuarios sean expuestos a canciones omitidas por el sistema de recomendación, pero que les pueden llegar a gustar.

The bubble filter, epistemic bubbles, and echo chambers have become popular due to questions about the role of social networks today. However, in the academic literature, there is not enough about their role of these in the distribution and consumption of art on the web, especially on streaming platforms such as Spotify. For this reason, this text discusses the role of recommender systems as gatekeepers, infomediaries, and curators. It also proposes the term aesthetic bubbles, a phenomenon where the diversity of aesthetic content consumed by users is reduced because they are not exposed to aesthetic objects other than those they already know. On the other hand, this text is accompanied by a web application where users will be able to receive counter-recommendations in their Spotify account. These counter-recommendations are intended to expose users to songs that are omitted by the recommendation system, but which they may like.
