Aedes albopictus is a medically important culicid as it is vector for some arboviruses, including the dengue virus. This mosquito that is native to Southeast Asia, has experienced widespread global expansion since the 1980s and it is an invasive species. The first report of this species in Colombia was in Leticia, Amazonas department in 1998, and since then it has spread to 16 departments. This study reports Ae. albopictus for the first time in the department of Cundinamarca in the municipality of Sasaima, in rural and urban areas. The adult mosquitoes were collected both in the intradomestic, peridomestic and outdoor environments, while breeding sites were only found in the peridomestic environment. Moreover, in the urban area, it was found in the same houses and breeding sites with Ae. aegypti. Additionally, the search of the 4 dengue virus serotypes was performed in the collected mosquitoes through real-time multiplex RT-PCR and all samples were negative.
